Masters 2014 is Unpredictable and Full of Excitement This Year

Masters 2014

With most of the top players in golf in poor shape or not on top of leader boards lately, the Masters 2014 is unpredictable and full of excitement this year. Unless you have been living under a rock, you already know that Tiger Woods is not playing because of his back surgery and Phil Mickelson is struggling with that oblique strain and lackluster finishes. Jason Day still hurting with that thumb injury, and Hunter Mahan has a ailing back. With so many question marks, this has raised the odds for all the other players on the betting scene by over a percent!

Even though lefty is going to play with that oblique strain, Mickelson still believes his confidence level will be right where he needs it to be:

“I feel that to give myself the best chance at the Masters I have to play in Houston,” Mickelson said. “If I thought I would injure myself further I would have withdrawn from the tournament, but the last few days have been good.”(read more here)

Instead of the focus being on the normal few including Woods and Mickelson, will the TV audience get bored without the super stars? Or will it be a fresh new camera look on the screen without every other camera shot of Tiger Woods and then the rest of the field. Don’t get me wrong I love Tiger Woods but he has been the focal point of this Tournament for quite awhile even though he hasn’t won it since 2005. Maybe a few of the younger players will have their chance to shine in the light like Rory McIlroy. He had a few things to say about his upcoming appearance:

“Golf’s in a funny place at the minute,” McIlroy told BBC Sport ahead of this week’s Houston Open.

“You are getting so many different winners and there are not as many guys dominating the sport like in the past with Tiger, Vijay (Singh) and Phil (Mickelson).

“I’d like to establish myself as that sort of player and someone’s got to step up, so I’m trying to be that person and it would be a great place to start next week.”(read more here)

It should be an interesting turn of events that bring this one together, but it could be anyone this year. Who will take the lead? Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Jordan Speith, Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson…. What do you think?
